Book Report

When Harry Meets SCARYThis review is about the new Harry Potter book when this was written was The Chamber of Secrets.  It talks about how Harry is entering a knew chapater and playing Quidditch and how he is entering Hogwarts again. It also talks about the movies and books get darker as the progress through. Finally it says how the second movie special effects could have been better.

 Syriana
The review talks about how this is probably one of the best movies about oil trade. It is also hard to follow but the review says the movie isn't meant to be easy to follow. The plot is so complex we aren't suppose to follow it we are suppos to surround it. Also that the characters aren't really aware of the plot so why should the people who watch it be involved as well.

 Watchman
The person who reviewed this movie strongly disliked the film.  He thought the movie was very long and dragged on.  He believed there was to many characters which made it hard to focus on one main story line.  He was very harsh on the way the characters appeared on screen. One of his comments was "Last and hugest is Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), who is buff, buck naked, and blue, like a porn star left overnight in a meat locker."  This brutal statement really captures his thought on the movie and the dirctor itself, from this line you can tell he strongly hated this movie.

On Turning Ten

What is Collins trying to say with this poem?
He is trying to say that there comes and age when you have to give up childish things.
How does he capture childhood and the process of growing up?
Collins shows how the things that bring us happiness seem to disappear and not seem as special anymore.  He also shows how children feel invinsible growing up and nothing could harm  them.
What makes this poem effective?
The way he goes through each year of his life and all the different things this kid wanted to be or thought he could do makes you see how much different children and adults are from eachother.  What also makes it effective is how the child thinks that when you turn 10 you have to forget all the childish things you enjoy and leave them behind.
how does this fit into your own life experience?
This fits into my own life and because there is a point in life were you start to leave behind the childish things and gaining more responsibilities and becoming more of and adult. You are leaving childhood and entering adulthood.

Beauty/Evil/Denial

BEAUTY
In this one my definition would be that there is only one kind of beauty and you can only achieve that kind of beauty with Dove products. There is only a certain kind of beauty and you need a certain hair type to get it and need to be in your underwear to show your true and natural beauty by only creating it with these products.

DENIAL
Denial has two types of meanings and one of the meanings was twisted into another meaning somewhere along the line. If your in denial about somethings you need a 12 step recovery plan to get you out of denial.

EVIL
A lot of people associate evil with George W. Bush, and evil has different levels and evil came from the Book of Jobs. With the tiniest about of evil the happiest person can feel the evil inside and make a turn for the worse. And how people act upon evil.

Definition Essay/Spring Break

1.Yes there are some areas I would have done, like giving the different types of yankees and they are similar to what I would define.
2.The allusions add a more understanding of the definition and I didn't get some of the allusions but I understood most of them and the ones I didn't get was fine because I got the understanding of it.
3.I do think the author delt with what a Yankee is not too much he should of spent more time with saying what a Yankee is.
4.Yankee might be one of the first genuine American characters to disappear.

Spring Break
My spring break I spent in Ohio with my brother most of the time. I looked for prom dresses, which I couldn't find. I got frozen yogurt a lot with my brother. I got my first job at Dairy Queen and work some days. I went shopping for new clothes. Worked on things for my grad party and played outside with my 5 year old brother. I took my 14 year old brother and his friend tee peeing which was fun. I say American Reunion with my boyfriend, and I spent Sunday(Easter) with my family and just hungout all day with them. All in all my break was pretty good.

A Modest Proposal

1.The purpose of him saying this about selling kids and what not is to show extreme things have gotten and what things have came too.
2.I have reckoned upon a medium that a child just born will weigh 12 pounds, and in a solar year, if tolerably nursed, increaseth to 28 pounds.
I do therefore humbly offer it to public consideration that of the hundred and twenty thousand children already computed, twenty thousand may be reserved for breed, whereof only one-fourth part to be males;
3.A little bit before paragraph 10
4. The rulers are too blame not the Irish
5.He never offers or gives any suggestions for changing the purposal
6.To verify on where he stands on selling babies and that he does not have kids but he does have an opinion about this topic.
7. I just think the whole thing was funny because why in the world would you sell babies?Like common it's funny cause I haven't read a story like this before.
8.If i was given the job of selling babies I don't think I could do it since I want to work with babies. And i don''t think I would call them something French because if I did sell babies I wouldn't want them to be unreginizable cause I would want my people to know what they have done.

Why I want a Wife?

1. It's saying what the wives should do but Brady doesn't believe this is how wives should act, be treated or to be doing all the time.
2.. I think she repeats it so many times so she can get it through the readers mind in what she wants and to make it a point that this is what this satire is about.
3.I think this spouse exists if she was crazy but otherwise no I don't think it exists. I think she wrote this to show what a wife should do and what her duties are as a wife and they should always but the husband first.
4.Brady organizes it by what the wife should be doing and how they should act and what wives should be doing during this time period. I think what Brady writes about wives is a stereotype of how they should be and how they should act. I think she wants her readers to respond kind of annoyed of how she characterizes wives.
5.Dear Brady
I admire how you say that he wants a wife with kids, to take care of you and the kids, to cook and to organize things cause guys normally are bad at those sort off things. I don't agree with how the wife is suppose to do everything even work while you go back to school. You should support your wife like she is supporting you. Sexual attention when you don't want it? I think it goes both ways, if your wife doesn't want she shouldn’t have to like you don’t want too. Finally, with replacing your wife whenever you feel like it is rude., you shouldn't be getting a new life whenever you want since there is kids involved.

Sincerely
Taylor

Thurber

The Little Girl and the Wolf

I liked this one because it was funny and it reminded me of little red riding hood. He did suprise me when she pulled out an automatic and killed the wolf. He used satire when he mocked how the grandmother looked.

The Unicorn in the Garden

This one was funny and interesting. It reminded me of the little boy who cried wolf. When she didn't believe him but then when she cried out to get her husband taken away she ended being the one taken away which surprised me.

The Princess and the Tin Box

Out of all of them it was my favorite. I liked how he made the readers think that she was going to pick the tin box instead of the other things. I know this reminds me of something but i can't think of what it is and I'm not sure how he uses satire in this fable.

Fairytale Poem

~Why is this lion trying to eat me? I'm just trying to help maybe if i catch him that  will teach him not too eat me and that I am trying to help

~He is one of the most feared creatures in the world
Why must my heart beat for him?

~I wish I could be on land, you can't do anything with fins and the ocean is so boring all you do is swim swim swim and I want to walk walk walk

~I'm going too eat all of their food
I'm the only one who knows how to have fun

~ I must get my daughter to fit in the shinny glass slipper
So poor ugly Cindy won't get the Charming Prince
The Prince comes back over with the slipper
My daughters each sit in a chair awaiting to try try the shoe on
My first daughter foot was too small for the perfect size shoe
My next daughter's foot fit in the top part then the back part came
"The shoe is gonna bust let me try it on before she breaks it"says Cindy
Cinderella will never be a princess she is not fit o for it and not even pretty
As the Prince puts the shoe on Cindy's foot and it fits like a glove
My heart sinks as she gets up from her chair and jumps in the Prince's arms

~As I walk through the dark creepy woods I hear noises
All of a sudden a hear a loud scream and I drop my basket and everything falls out

~As I travel down the tunnel to wonderland
I can't help but think 'Will I ever come back?'

~I look up at the tall unstable mattresses wondering if it will be able to hold me up
I start my journey up the ladder too await my destiny

~I walked up to the glass case and lookibng down at my true love
I grab her by the back and reach in for a kiss hoping I will awake her

Valentine's Day Poem

Happy Valentine’s day from the heart
I’m writing you sincerely from that place
I hope it’s gotten to a very nice start
That should bring a smile upon your face
My heart is wide open with a brand new space
With a smile that welcomes all of your joy
For you to walk in and try to embrace
And hopes that your heart will never be destroyed
I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve for you
As I look up at the dark  midnight sky
I only think of walking at the zoo
That’s when you made me feel like I could fly
You are my now, always and forever
I will never hurt you whatsoever

Reaction

When the guys came into talk too us I wasn't really sure how I felt about it until they presented their skit.  The skit shows the reality of how you can get trapped in the drug circle. When i first heard they were coming into talk to us I kind of got scared like 'why are convicts coming and talking to us?'  When they started telling their stories most of them were all abused in some way, I think someone should of shared a story that didn't come from a abusive home. Also they should of found some girls too speak also to get too different views so they can show how the girls were effected.

This I Believe Reaction

A List for Living- This guy made a list in elementary school on things he wanted to do before he died and he kept adding too it. Then he became ill again and he says he might not make it but he is rushing to finish his list that has 77 things left. When I read this it made me think of what I wanted too do before i died and maybe I should start my own list. This article shows me that I should live my life and do things I want to do.

In Our Own Words- I kind of want to volunteer at a rehab or something just to work with them or any kind of facility to see what they are going through. I wish this lady would have explained more then she had and not about her self since she wasn't addicted to anything.

I Believe in Cigarettes- This guy is stupid, why would you smoke to celebrate life if you know it's killing you? He called them "cancer sticks" He keeps saying there is no way  for him to escape his depression which I find hard to believe he could go to rehab, use the patch or gum so when he says there is no way out I find that really hard to believe.  He was a christian boy but not anymore cause of smoking which i find this hard to believe I know some christians that smoke and still believe and go to church so this whole article he wrote is a lie and hard to believe.

This I Believe- This guy has ALS, he talks about the truth how he was scared and how he is overcoming the fact he has 5-7 years left and how he deals with being paralyzed from the neck down. I like how he just accepts it and lives his life everyday instead of feeling sorry for himself and wasting his days.  He doesn't give up and always looks at the bright side.

Hollywood Boulevard

While walking on Hollywood Boulevard I saw a girl who was wearing an ostentatious outfit. I thought ‘Her outfit is a little much to be wearing out during the day’. Her heels she was wearing were so tall it made her look 6 foot but in reality she was like 5 foot 5. I notice a bump in the pavement and it was a pretty big pump that would make anyone lose their balance. As I was sitting on the bench the girl tripped over the pump and fell on too the pavement and smacked her face against the pavement.  When she got up her ostentatious outfit was not very ostentatious anymore. Her lip was busted up and was gushing blood every where like a waterfall.  Maybe next time she won’t wear the skyscraper heels again.  Somebody realized what had happened at called the ambulance.  A few minutes later a screeching siren came rushing beside her.  The women couldn’t seem to get up so they carried her out on a long, white board.  Her splendid little stroll down Hollywood Boulevard didn’t seem so splendid anymore.  When the paramedics arrive, they notice that the girl has the largest fungus growing out of her skyscraper heels.  They notice that this girl wore them all the time, and never bothered to wash her own feet.  Her circular fungus was as massive as an oppressive grandfather clock, its red bumps, and green ooze bubbling from its surface could repulse a billy goat. They wait and see what it will do, and thankfully they had kept their goggles and medical masks on, other wise they would be infected with the same fungi. It looked like spoiled blueberries were growing off of her feet. As she was riding in the ambulance she had a spasm and had too hurry to the hospital. Her fantastic stroll was all ruined by her sky scraper heels.

Details

1.I changed him into some really cute clothes because my friends and I were going out that night
-I changed him into these light wash blue jeans, a sweater that was green and had a brown monkey on it and put white tennis shoes on him because my friends and I were going out to dinner with their babies.

2. He thought it was funny that I actually dared to bring a doll into the restaurant, so he brought a high chair, plus a red balloon for the little one.
-The waiter thought it was funny that i actually brought a plastic doll with me into the restaurant, he brought be the perfect size high chair and a shinny red ballon that was the color of an apple.

3.Then the baby started to cry this horrible imitation baby’s cry. It was so loud and terrible.
- The baby started the cry it was the worst imitation of a baby's cry that i have ever heard, when the baby started crying people around the store gave me odd looks thinking it was and actual baby. The babies cry gave me a head pounding headache for the rest of the night.

Narrative Check List

I think I could involve the reader in a little more. After rereading my narrative it felt boring, I was thinking I didn't focus on the event but more the other stuff that happened before the event and maybe the thing I chose to write about might be to boring and maybe I should switch to something else i could expand on, focus and add more details to it and not just fill up with fillers. I didn't really have dialoge I did but I don't know if that is enough or not. From my story I think I did grow from it but I'm not sure how to show that in my paper.I don't think people got the point and there wasn't a real meaning to it.

Helen Keller

1.I liked the narrative. I thought it was well written with great descriptive words that help me picture what was going on in the story.
2. How she learned to spell

3.How she learned how to spell her words out
4.A little bit, I already have read some things about her for other classes so I already knew how she learned to read and how important her teacher was to her
5. Copy and paste three examples of vivid detail and imagery that helped enhance the story
*We walked down the path to the well-house, attracted by the fragrance of the honeysuckle with which it was covered.
* My fingers lingered almost unconsciously on the familiar leaves and blossoms which had just come forth to greet the sweet southern spring.
*The afternoon sun penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned face.
6 It helps you better understand what happened in the person's life if it is told from their self. It helps you get all the details, the people that were there and things like that.
7.
*Moving to Columbus
*First day at a new school
*Sanibel Island
*Scraping my knee on a hose
*Getting stung by a bee
*Lake House
*Getting lost at UK

Where I'm From

I’m from Lake Erie
From running in the sand
And from seagulls stealing my French fries
From trying to jump over waves
And getting salt water in my mouth
I am from Browns Country
From seeing orange and brown everywhere I go
I’m from sitting at seats at the Jake
From rooting for the home team
To stretching at the 7th inning stretch
I’m from being daddy’s little girl
From my dad’s big  brown eyes
To his big feet and his brown hair
I’m from being mom’s helper
From my mom’s loving
And caring spirit
To her sense of independence
I am from blasting country music
And singing  to the radio
And to Jason Aldean
From driving with the top down
And feeling the wind in my hair
I’m from climbing trees
With the kids down the street
From scraping my knees until they bruised
And feeling like I’m on top of the world
I’m from the sunshine from summertime
From hearing crickets and itchy bug bites
I’m from looking for lighting bugs
From only seeing the lights of the bugs
I am from gloves and bats
From dirt blowing everywhere
And hitting softballs to running the bases
I’m from taking pictures
From remembering every moment
I’m from crying to smiling
From using all the tissues and falling off my seat
I’m from living, laughing and loving
From living in the moment
